In a world that’s so busy, yoga has helped me to be still, and to reconnect with myself.

I’ve been practising yoga since my mid-twenties, when I was searching for something to help alleviate my physical symptoms of anxiety – chest pain, difficulty breathing, palpitations, you name it. I fell in love with how the postures and breathing exercises made me feel. I became more in touch with my body, I felt relaxed and calm. I also noticed that when I came to my mat, that overthinking, self-critical voice inside was silenced for a bit. The more I practised, the quieter it became. Over the next few years, yoga made me stronger, both physically and mentally, and I learned to gently shift negative thought patterns that contributed to my anxiety. In a world that’s so busy, yoga has helped me be still, and to reconnect with myself.

In 2017, I made the leap from yoga student to yoga teacher, so I could hopefully share with others the many benefits the practice has had for me. I am now a Certified Yoga Alliance RYT 200 teacher, but I will always be a yoga student, wanting to deepen my understanding of yoga, and I regularly attend classes and trainings.

I work part time as chief sub-editor and writer across Reach PLC magazines in London.
I’m studying for a diploma in Wellness and Resilience Coaching Skills.
I’m also a wood-burning artist, and make bespoke decorative pieces – check out @melanierosemakes on instagram.

I LOVE Country music.
I try my best to eat a plant-based diet.
I’m a big fan of wine, especially NZ Sauvignon Blanc.
Margaritas are my fave cocktail.
I’m 90% sugar free. Apart from cakes and wine ;).
I have a two-year-old niece who can already do Downward Dog, Butterfly, Bridge and say Om (all thanks to Fearne Cotton’s Yoga Babies book).
